In the framework of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence at the Research Centre for European Analysis and Policy (LEAP) and Interdisciplinary Thematic Institute MAKErS of the University of Strasbourg, and co-organised with Luiss University and @UNU-MERIT, the Summer School on “Europe’s Innovation Nexus: Science, Technology, and Industrial Policy” will take place at @Bureau d’Économie Théorique et Appliquée (BETA), University of Strasbourg, from June 29 to July 1, 2026.

The European Union is currently facing a number of structural challenges. Economic growth has been sluggish, geopolitical tensions are on the rise, and Europe appears to be losing ground in the global race for innovation, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI). Yet innovation has never been more critical to ensuring sustainable economic growth and rising standards of living. This year’s Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences has further highlighted this dimension by rewarding scholars who have examined the role of innovation in driving long-term growth.

The three-day summer school is designed for PhD students in economics, innovation studies and the social sciences more broadly. It will directly engage with the themes highlighted by the Schumpeterian tradition and the Nobel laureate, that are crucial for Europe’s future: how scientific advances, technological change and industrial transformation interplay to shape growth, competitiveness and policy in European contexts.

Interested applicants are invited to consult the Call for Applications and submit their materials by email to leap[at]luiss.it, attaching all required documents before April 4th 2026.
